Against All Odds: Opening Education in Makrani Lane

Crafting New Paths: Students Defying Marginalisation

Turning Dilapidated Streets into Pathways of Learning

Our dedicated staff members walked through the crumbling, dilapidated Makrani Lane in Bandra East, where roads were covered with muck and filth. Carcasses of skinned goats hung outside meat shops along dingy by-lanes, and at times the space between two rows of houses was so narrow that they could only walk in single file. As they walked, they wondered how they would convince the residents of the need to educate their children. Yet they needn’t have worried— their tireless efforts paid off. The Bandra Education Centre opened its doors to more than 50 bright-eyed, eager students. In the years that followed, hundreds of children were brought under our fold, given that one opportunity and the chance to a quality education that is rightfully theirs.
